4 : The advantages of Standard Size Forms
Why pay more than you have to for your continuous stationery?
If your forms are not produced on standard sized paper then you could
be missing out on the following advantages:
*
Reduced Cost of up to 50% by using standard "off the shelf"
sizes.
* Quicker delivery - normally 48 hours.
* Time saved by user in changing printer settings.
* Ability to group jobs together when ordering stationery, resulting
in cost savings.
* Standard software compatible layouts available to further reduce printing
costs.
* No longer stuck with limited number of forms suppliers of non standard
size forms.

Paper
Sizes
The
U.K. forms printing industry has never been able to make up its mind
about standard sizes of forms. Standard 80 column computer listing paper
available is 11 x 9 1/2". After perforations are removed the final
sheet size is 11 x 8 1/2" - the USA equivalent of A4. The European
standard DIN A4 paper size is 11 2/3 x 8 1/4". The continuous sheet
size being 11 2/3 x 9 1/4" including 1/2" perforations on
each side.
...................................................................................................................................
Because
if the original USA software programs, manufacturers press limitations,
paper reel widths and a lack of industry communication the "A4"
standard equivalent continuous form sizes vary tremendously.
The most popular sizes are as follows:
11
x 9 1/4" (279 x 235mm)
11 x 9 1/2" (279 x 241mm)
11 x 10" (279 x 254mm)
11 2/3 x 9 1/4" (296 x 235mm)
11 2/3 x 9 1/2" (296 x 241mm)
12 x 9 1/4" (305 x 235mm)
12 x 9 1/2" (305 x 241mm)
All
of the above sizes could be converted to one size only.
The most common size being 11 x 9 1/2".
...................................................................................................................................
The
same scenario applies to all the other common depths of continuous forms.
For example:
8
x 9 1/2" (203 x 241mm)
8 1/2 x 9 1/2" (216 x 241mm)
Variations
in the width of the above depth forms can be anything from 8" (203mm)
to 10" (254mm).
By
altering the position of the down perforations (see diagram) all possible
sizes of paper used on an 80 column printer can be converted to 9 1/2"
(241mm) wide. The
same concept as above could be applied to the standard size of 12"
(305mm) and 13" (330mm) wide forms.

Software
Considerations
It
may be necessary with some layouts to alter the software print programs.
The
majority of modern accounting software packages on the market today
are very flexible. Form's sizes and print positions can be altered fairly
easily.
Please
note that you will always be safe if the left hand margin of the form
remains in its existing position. The right hand margin can be moved
wherever you like and it will not affect the computer printout. Always
determine the maximum paper width that the printer will accept. There
are generally two sizes, 80 column (up to 10" wide paper) and 132
column (up to 15" wide paper).
