Technology has changed internal procedures, including how payroll teams communicate payroll information. What was once a more advanced technology solution, how to display pay information using online payslips, is now the standard rather than the exception.

Only a decade ago, online payslips were offered to office-based employees using company computers as part of their daily schedule. The business case for online payslips was, therefore, difficult as teams wrestled with balancing set-up costs, opt-in rates and benefits.

Managing online payslips also causes extra administration for payroll teams. A two-tier payslip system means payroll still needs to print payroll documents and host online payslips.

Technology has transformed the way we work

What’s clear from this video is that apps and mobile devices have replaced outdated physical equipment and paper processes. It’s no surprise, then, in the path of the pandemic, we no longer need a fixed location to work. Organisations can operate from wherever and whenever needed.

50% of employees access online payslips on an iPhone

Most organisations can connect an employee with their online payslips, either through a desktop or personal mobile device. According to our internal Epay user data, 50% of users access their payslips via an iPhone, but they can use any device or operating system:

  • 50% iPhone
  • 31% Android
  • 11% Windows
  • 8% others

Within ‘others’, users are even using non-work-related devices such as game consoles and eReaders to access online payslips.

Process efficiency through epayslips

Payroll teams use the secure Epay portal to deliver online payslips and achieve business efficiencies.

Dale Farm moved to the Epay platform in July 2021 and uses it to upload around 3-4000 payroll documents each month. In doing so, the payroll function saves half a day each month by distributing digital pay information. There’s no more manual processing or on-site managers delivering payslips by hand, which saves £000s annually. And from an employee perspective, users can view all their payslips in a single place whenever they need to.
